Welcome!
So glad you’ve joined me!
Not long ago, I had the distinct privilege of being part of a visitation team to a dying woman. Let’s face it, we all know we’re going to die but it somehow takes on new meaning when you’ve been told, “six months at most". Although she never gave up hope of healing this side of Heaven, most pressing on her heart was the knowledge that her children know Jesus and would join her in Heaven...
In response to her distress, the pastor told a story, “You know the other day I was getting dressed and when I reached into the pocket of the pants I had chosen, I found twenty bucks! Twenty bucks!” he told her excitedly. “But you know, just because I didn’t know the twenty bucks was there, didn’t make it any less there.” He let this sink in before continuing, “You have passed on to your children a rich Christian heritage. You’ve taught them well and shown them Jesus. One day, they’ll find that faith you’ve planted in them. It’s there, just waiting for them to discover it.”
This resonated in me. I have been a Christ-follower for nearly three decades and during that time I’ve often reflected on the development of my own faith: where and when the seed was planted, and how that seed was nurtured – even without my knowledge and understanding in the beginning – to what it has now become.
Is my faith a fluke? Chance? Luck? No, no, and no. It’s no more by chance than my house just happened to show up one day. The timbers didn’t just cut themselves to size and make themselves framework, stairs, or cupboards. No, it took a plan, a laying of a foundation, and then the careful placement of the materials in just the right sequence and structure. My faith, I believe, is the product of a rich familial Christian heritage that spans centuries but became real only when I surrendered my will and life to God. Like Kitty’s children, that heritage lay dormant just waiting for me to discover.
I invite you to journey with me. To “taste and see that the LORD is good" (Psalm 34:8). Very, very good, in fact! Enter the land of awe and wonder…
